Hoshiarpur
is one of the oldest cities of Punjab.
The
district is bounded by Kapurthala, Jalandhar and
Gurdaspur districts of Punjab state and Kangra and
Una districts of Himachal Pradesh state.
It has close proximity to neighboring Himachal
Pradesh and & its famous temples of Chintapurni ji
& Jawala Ji. Historically, this
was also part of Indus Valley Civilization. Many excavations
at various sites in the district have revealed that
the entire area near the Shiwalik foothills was selected
for habitation not only by the early palaeolithic
man but also by those in the protohistoric and historic
periods.
The Hoshiarpur city
is famous
for traditional inlaid wooden handicrafts, jewellers
and garment stores specializing in rich Punjabi outfits
specially for women. The city has come up with professionally
managed Hospitals in child care and general Medicare.
Many NRI's (NON RESIDENT INDIANS) prefer Hoshiarpur
and nearby Jalandhar city for shopping while they
are holidaying in their homeland, Punjab.
